Hockey: Changes likely in Perak HA

Former National keeper Ahmad Sayuti is the favourite to assume the presidency of the Perak Hockey Association.

Sayuti who kept goal for the national Hockey team received 7 nominations from the various districts at the close of nominations.

The incumbent Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad recurved two nominations.

The elections will be held this Saturday in Ipoh.

Sayuti who was formerly with Tenaga Nasional is now a successful self made businessman and is liked by many in the Hockey fraternity.

Though he is largely quiet, Sayuti is not afraid to voice his views.

“ It is still early as it’s only nominations and things can change Saturday,” said the modest Sayuti when contacted.

“ I have my plans to uplift Hockey in thr state and have been sharing them with the districts.

“ We need to take the game down to the grassroots as Perak had a strong tradition of being a platform for talented players who donned national colours.

“ Somewhere along the way we lost the plot and need to get back on track.”

Two incumbents Deputy President Dato Rahim Mat Arif and Treasurer Kulwant Singh were returned unopposed.

With such strong support from affiliates, it would be better for Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad to withdraw and pave the way for Sayuti.

The position of Secretary in Perak HA is an appointed one and the fate of M. Selvakumar lies in the hands of the President.
