Hockey Could Champions Trophy be moved , again?

With the current rise in the Covid 19 pandemic, there is a strong possibility that the Asian Hockey Confederation will be forced to make changes to its 2021 calendar.

And first to be hit could well be the Asian Champions Trophy this March.

AHF is expected to make a decision soon and an announcement could be made after consultations with the sponsors and Bangladesh Hockey Association, the hosts.

For AHF safety of the players and officials is of paramount importance and as such all health aspects and risks involved will be taken into consideration .

An overall review is likely to be undertaken by AHF soon and that will surely affect the domestic calendar .

The Malaysian Hockey League is still uncertain as Kuala Lumpur is under the Red Zone in which contact sports activities are prohibited.

Unless of course the teams undergo “ quarantine” based approach which will cost loads.

And there is no question of allowing spectators as it’s a clear no in the standard operation. Procedures for sports.

Although the Youth Abd Sports Ministry was to reveal the SOP’s for sports to return on January 1, there has yet to be any statement issued by the Minister.

AHF will more then likely move their events to the second half of the year, a cramped calendar but one that is necessary for safety reasons.

Besides most borders are still closed so it’s clear the AHF and bound by government regulations .
