Hockey keeper Fadzil needs assistance for a bypass operation

Ahmad Fadzil Zainal, represented Malaysia in Hockey for 14 years in his prime.

And during his playing career which ran from 1978 to 1992, he kept goal in several major tournaments.

One World Cup ( 1982 Bombay) , 2 Olympics ( 1984 Los Angles and 1992 Barcelona) as well as three Asian Games ( 1982, 1986 and 1990) plus four SEA Games , was just part of his 196 international caps got Malaysia.

And today Fadzil is pleading for assistance to save his life.

For the Perak Player has three blocks in his heart and needs to undergo a bypass operation this June.

After the checks were completed , angioplasty was attempted at IJN but was not successful.

And Fadzil needs RM40,000 to cover the cost of his operation, minus the after Care and medications.

“ I did approach Yakeb but was informed they could only assist to the maximum of RM20,000,” said Fadzil to this blog.

“ I am not gainfully employed and do not have the money to undergo the operation. And I also look after my aged Father as well.

“ These are tough tunes and I appeal to friends and fans out there to help me cover my expenses for the operation.”

Fadzil’s plight was highlighted to the Malaysian Olympian Association by another fitter Olympian but the reply was unbecoming as MOA states they were not a charity organisation.

Fadzil does not receive any pension as he was working for a subsidiary of Perak SEDC and this further complicated matters.

Fadzil is hoping that agencies such as the Ministry of Youth and Ports, National Sports Council, Yayasan Hoki Malaysia, Malaysian Hockey Confederation, , Perak Sate Government and Perak Hockey Association will step forward to help him overcome the cost of his operation,

“ For the time bring I am on medication until the operation can be done but that depends on my ability to pay the cost,” said Fadzil.

“ I do hope that the relevant bodies will look into my plight and step forward to help me.”

And that was an impassioned plea from a man who put his body in the firing line to prevent goals being scored and being hoory to the nation,

It is time that we all step forward to assist a legend instead of looking into the future whilst forgetting our past.
