Hockey: No go for Women Junior Asia Cup

There is a strong possibility that the Women’s Asia Junior Cup Hockey Tournament which was scheduled to be held in April could well be postponed.

The corona virus outbreak has thrown a spanner and the organisers are discussing with AHF and FIH on the possibility of postponing the tournament.

A formal announcement is expected within this week.

Serving as the qualifier for the Junior World Cup, the tournament was to be held in in Kakamighara, Japan from 6-12 April.

China were the defending champions but had to withdraw due Corona Virus outbreak in their country.

The tournament serves as the Asian qualifier as the top three qualifying for the 2021 Junior World Cup.

China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand were automatically qualified for the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2020 based on the final ranking of the previous Junior Asia Cup, while Singapore and Uzbekistan qualified for participation by finishing at the top of the final rankings at the AirAsia Women’s Junior AHF Cup in December 2019.

China’s places was taken over by Chinese Taipei following their withdrawal.
