Hockey: SOJC moves to 2021

The 10th edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup has been postponed to 2021.

Scheduled to be held from October 3 to 10, the annual Under 21 Invitational Tournament often sees 6 teams participating.

However due to the decision not to hold mass gatherings in view on the Covid 19 Pandemic, the Johor Hockey Association , the organisers of the event since its inauguration in 2011 have decided to call off this years edition.

“ I had an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim today and Tuanku advised us not to hold the tournament this year,” said JHA Acting President Dato Majid Manjit Abdullah.

“ Tuanku is concerned on the well being of both players and spectators and felt that we best not go ahead with the tournament this year,

“ Therefore the 10th edition of the SOJC will now be held in 2021 and the exact dates will be determined once FIH has decided on its major events calendar,” added Dato Manjit.

“ While we are sad that we had to postpone the SOJC, our priority is towards the well being of the players and general public.”

For this year’s edition four teams , India, Australia Great Britain and Malaysia , had already confirmed participation while Japan and Germany had adopted the wait and see attitude.

“ The JHA will hold either a quadrangular or pent-angular for local teams as a prelude to Sukma,” said Dato Manjit.

“ This will most likely be held in either November or December.”

Prior to the the 29th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup was also postponed to next year.
