Hockey: Winning start for Matador in FHE Cup Perth

Matador Hockey Club notched two wins in as many matches in the opening day of the FHE Cup held in Perth, Australia.

Placed in Pool B, the self funded Hockey development club notched wins over Cirello Coaching Academy ( 3-0) and later punished BMR Coaching Academy 6-0.

The other teams in their group are Bukit Jalil Sports School, Japan. Western Australia Penguins, and Western Australia Wallabies.

In the match again CCA, Matador, coached by Balbir Singh , scored their goals through Amanraj Singh ( 8th minute), Haiqal Haziq ( 20th minute) and Aizad Fadir ( 39th minute).

In the second match the goals were scored by Amanraj Singh (1st and 35th minutes), Ronny Richard ( 6th minute), Haiqal Haziq ( 23rd minute two goals) and Khairul Norizam ( 26th minute).

Formed by former international Sarjit Singh, the team is managed by Shahbuddin Royani who is the Johor HA Secretary and Germany’s Paul Lissek is the coaching consultant.

Matador will take on WA Penguins on Friday before playing BJSS later in the day.

And two wins in these matches will put them in strong contention for a place in the last four.

A total of 14 trans are competing in the boys Under 16 competition this year.

Meanwhile BJSS lost their opening match 1-3 to Japan but bounced back to defeat WA Penguins 6-0.

The other Malaysian team in the tournament is Penang Hornets who played to a scoreless draw against Majulah Singapore.
