M-League: Exclusive: May resumption ruled out as Hamidin awaits options.

The extension of the Movement Control Order till April 14 was welcomed by the Football Association of Malaysia and Malaysia Football League President Dato Hamidin Mohd Amin.

In stating that the health and well being of the players and officials as well of fans is of paramount importance, Hamidin felt that the onus is on the two bodies to carefully plan when the league can be resumed and should there be any change of format.

“ Initially there were plans to start by May 1 but looking at the situation now that will not be possible,” admitted Hamidin.

“ With the MCO ending on April 14, a start by May 1 will not be feasible.

“ This is because we need to give the teams time to prepare for the resumption of the league.

“ This is akin to a pre-season preparation and from what I experienced , they will require anything between 4-6 weeks.

“ So realistically speaking the ideal situation will be just after the Hari Raya, meaning in June.”

Hamidin said they understood the concern of teams with regards to the payment of salaries, given that they had no gate collection for almost a month and this could last till end of May.

“ We need to take into consideration that Ramadhan will commence in April and if we start the league right away, it might cause injuries to the players,” cautioned Hamidin.

“ As for the salary issues, I support the call by Dato Windsor Paul for the respective parties to sit down and come out with a win win situation.

“ Both parties need to understand the constraints faced and must give in at times as Football is something that we all depend on in our lives.”

Hamidin said that he hoped his officers in both FAM and MFL will now look into when best to start the league, it’s format and a decision on the Malaysia Cup.

“ I am awaiting their proposals and reasoning before putting it forward to the stakeholders, which is the teams as well as our sponsors,” said Hamidin.

“ It will be based on consensus and for the betterment of our competitions.

“ Hence I plead with the fans to be more patient and understanding in this matter.”

Hamidin also paid tribute to Sports Minister Dato Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for postponing the Sukma

“ It was a good decision and made early to give the various contingents enough time to re-plan their training schedules,” said Hamidin.

“ I hope to brief the Minister on our plans for the M-League once they are more conclusive.”
