MAF General Manager quits

The Malaysian Athletic Federation has been dealt with a bitter blow.

Their General Manager. Lt. Col. (R) Kalaimoney Bathumalay submitted his resignation on Monday, handing his letter to MAF President Dato SM Muthu and his Deputy Dato Mumtaz Jaafar.

The former army officer who joined MAF in June was tight lipped on his reasons for his sudden departure.

“ In accordance with the terms offered. I only need to provide a 24 hour notice,” clarified Lt. Col. (R) Kalaimoney.

“ When I handed my letter, no questions were asked and the resignation was duly accepted.

“ I will be in office on Wednesday to hand over duties.”

Known to be a quiet, hard working and dedicated staff, his departure will undoubtedly pose many questions, especially coming just over a month after the MAF Elections.

It is learnt that the working conditions in MAF made it untenable for Lt. Col. (R) Kalaimoney to discharge the duties entrusted to him effectively.

And the fact that he was appointed by the part committee also had a role to play as he was looked upon as being “ Karin’s Man.”

However those who have dealt with him both prior and after the MAF Elections vouch for his professionalism and work ethics.

The shock resignation did not go down well with some state officials.

“ I think there is more to it, as to why he resigned. We need to discuss this and see if he was forced out due to politics,” said a state athletics official.

“Many things are not right, with those appointed as managers of the World Championships and SEA Games being changed abruptly.”

It looks like MAF is set to go through another murky episode if the high handedness of a particular official who is said to micro manage the body is left unchecked.
