Marhan – UniKL ready for the challenge

Press Release

Starting their league campaign with a win is what UniKL skipper Marhan Jalil is looking for.

The university outfit open their campaign with a match against Tenaga Nasional Berhad this Friday.

And Marhan knows that an opening match win will boost the morale of his players in their quest to win one of the two titles at stake.

Moving lost in the semi final of the Alagendra Cup to eventual champions KL Hockey Club, the national Player believes his team mates would comeback strongly by taking all three points against TNB.

“ We need to put that defeat behind us and prepare mentally for a fought encounter against TNB,” said Marhan.

“ We are fortunate to be able to secure some very experienced foreign players and we look towards them to help the team achieve success.

“ Against TNB we need to employ a tight marking game as they have players like Tengku Ahmad and Firhan who are deadly if given half a chance.

“ Team discipline and awareness is vital especially if we adopt a high press strategy as TNB has players with speed that can catch us napping if left unmarked.

Marhan believes that penalty corners will play a vital role in the match.

“ Not only must we work on our penalty corner attack but need to be more vigilant in the penalty corner defence,” added Marhan.

“ The team is all geared up to do well in the league where every point matters and we know it is a tough and winding road ahead.

“ But this time around we hope to negotiate it with patience and performances on the pitch to do the talking.”
