The M-League and various sports competitions are set to return in August 15.

This was part of the decision made by the National Security Council at their twice weekly meeting held on Thursday morning.

The decisions of the meeting was announced by Senior Minister Dato Seri Isnail Sabri Yakob today.

And those in the Football fraternity, aa well as those in sports generally have Youth and Sports Minister Dato Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican to thank for a systematic and well planned return to sport taking into account the safety and well being of all involved.

For the Minister presented a solid argument and justification to his colleagues and it resulted in contact training in sports to commence from July 15.

And if everything goes according to plan with no infections amongst the sports fraternity or no surge in Covid 19 cases nationwide, then competitions are permitted from August 15, though this was not a pre condition announced today.

For the time being though competitions are permitted for non contact sports, also effective from July 15.

“ The gradual return to sports is nearing a full return m” said DS Reezal.

“ We has to be patient despite many sectors pushing for a full return and quickly.

“ We at KBS took advice from MOH and appreciate the views and feedback from all sectors

“ Our policy of engaging the stakeholders was vital in the various phases of return of sports.”

And in welcoming the decision of allowing sports with contact training,, FAM President Dato Hamidin Mohd Amin paid tribute to the Sports Minister.

“ It is wonderful news indeed for Football as teams can prepare well for the resumption of the M-League,” said Dato Hamidin.

“ I must thank DS Reezal for his initiative and ability to convince NSC to grant this permission and give us ample time to prepare for the resumption.”

In echoing the views of Dato Hamidin, Olympic Council of Malaysia President Dato Seri Norza Zakaria also welcomes the decision of the National Security Council.

“ While we are all elated at this wonderful news., it is important that we remain vigilant at all times and adhere to the standard operating procedures,” reminded DS Norza.

“ In our elation we must show self discipline and restraint so as not to create any sports related cluster.

“ This announcement gives the various National sports associations an opportunity to resume their activities.”

The announcement will also be a boon to the operators and owners of sports facilities throughout the country

Though no spectators will be allowed for the time being, the onus will be on the various sports administrators to be innovative in trying to stream the activities on various digital platforms available.

And the NSA’s could now start thinking in how best to apply and utilise the digitalisation approach that DS Reezal has both advocated and provided allocation for a month ago.
