Ritu Rani to play in MHL for BlueWarriors

The Police Di Raja Malaysia women’s team for the Malaysian Hockey League will be strengthened by the presence of three former Indian internationals.

The ability of PDRM , whose team is named Blue Warriors, to secure the services of former Indian skipper Ritu Rani, striker Narender Kaur and midfielder Reena Rani will no install then as a team to watch.

Much of the credit towards building a formidable squad goes to DCP Dato Shuhaily Mohd Zain who was recently appointed as the Hockey Convenor for PDRM.

The team finished in the runner up position in the inaugural league in 2016 and went on to win the Vivian Soars Cup.

The following year, 2017, they ended up as runners up in both the tournaments.

Coach Zolkhairi Ariffin confirmed securing the services of the three Indian players.

“ We have received the No Objection Certificate from Hockey India and will register the players at the managers meeting on Sunday,” said Zulkhairi.

“ We have a well balanced side and hopefully we can at least win one of the titles at stake.

“ We hope the Indian players will arrive soon as they await their visa approval as our first match is on January 18.”

Blue Vipers can also depend on current Malaysian internationals , Insp Farah Ayuni, Norbaini Hashim and Nurhaslinda Said.

Ritu Rani, 27 years old, hails from Haryana.

She first laid her hands on a hockey stick at the age of 9.

Ritu made her debut in senior hockey national team in 2006, at Asian Games in Doha. Ritu was the youngest Indian player to perform in World Cup in Madrid, 2006. In 2009, India won the Champions Challenge II in Russia, and won the tournament all thanks to Rani because she was the top scorer with eight goals to her name.

Rani was appointed as Captain in 2011, under her captaincy the team finished the game at 3 rd position in Asian Games, 2014.
