SEA Games Malaysian Gold Medal Target

Based on a study of medals won in the last Sea Games in Singapore and taking into account the increase as well as inclusion of several disciplines, that Malaysia dominates, it is projected that 119 gold medals will be in the grasp of the contingent by the time the games draw to a close.

This is a fair assessment as sports like badminton have been set a low target of 2 gold medals, but it will be hard to achieve.

As for athletics, though MAF has claimed a golden trail, they are expected to win five gold medals based on current times of their opponents.

Diving and track cycling are expected to deliver the bulk of the gold medals, with 13 events each Malaysia should take 11 from each sport but there is a possibility of a clean sweep.

The breakdown below shows the comparison between the last performance and the increase this time around.

With 62 gold medals won in Singapore, the figure could well be doubled if all plans go their way.

But the mother of all golds – football – is not expected to be won by Malaysia.

As a word of caution, in the last two editions of Sea Games, the hosts failed to make it to the semis of this event.
