USA to debut in SOJC

The seventh edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup will see the return of India and the debut of United States of America.
The only invitational tournament for U21 will be held at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium from the 22nd to 29th October.

Joining India and USA will be defending champions Great Britain, Australia, Japan and Malaysia.

India are the reigning World Junior Champions while Australia finish forth in the 2016 Junior World Cup in Uttar Pradesh in December last year.

” We are happy to announce the confirmation of participation from these six countries,” said Johor Hockey Association Deputy President Dato Manjit Majid Abdullah,

” The return of India adds prestige to the tournament.

” In addition the willingness of USA to come all the way will provide a fresh perspective to the tournament.”

Manjit added that Johor HA will also be Organising several seminars, namely for coaching, technical and umpiring during the tournament.

” We are also exploring the possibility of holding coaching clinics for children,” said Manjit who is also Malaysian Hockey Confederation Vive President.

The SOJC is a much sought after tournament as it provides budding youngster an opportunity to showcase their taken at a young age.

It also acts as a platform for countries to start preparations for the next junior World Cup in 2020.
