Velodrome Launch – Be Fair

The National Velodrome is set to be opened on May 25.
It is learnt that NSC/KBS has decided to accord the Honour to four Cycling stalwarts to conduct the opening.

The four are Ng Joo Ngan, Rosman Alwi, M. Kumaresan and Azizul Hasni Awang.

These four Athletes have contributed immensely towards Cycling in the country.

However it is sad that two Cycling greats have been ignored, either on purpose of those who advised the Sports Minister had omitted them either due to not being able to recall their contributions to the nation or deliberately.

Shahruddin Jaafar won the country’s first track Cycling gold medal on the Merdeka Stadium track in 1965.

He was also the Secretary of Malaysian Cycling Federation from 1981 to 1990 and helped formed the Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Pahang and Kedah state Cycling bodies.

He was also the first Malaysian international commissionaire in 1972 and coached the national squad at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

As for Josiah he won 3 gold medals in the Asian Championships in 2012 and 2013 in Keirin and Sprint.

He also contributed one Gold and one silver at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Josiah won 3 silver medals in the 2002,2006 and 2010 Asian Games.

At the SEA Games level he won 2 gold medals in the 2007 games.

So why have these two fine gentlemen who are icons of Malaysian Cycling?

Over to you Mr. Minister.
