Vietnam SEA Games: Indoor Hockey and Netball could get the nod.

It is the prerogative of Vietnam as hosts to determine the final number of sports that they will host in the 2021 SEA Games.

And the SEA Games Federation Executive Committee and Council that meets on Wednesday will in all likelihood hear what Vietnam has to say.

A vital meeting of the Sports and Rules Committee was held on Tuesday., chaired by Mr. Tran Duc Phan, who is the Vice Chairman of Vietnam Sports Administration.

The saw representatives from all eleven (11) SEAGF Member-NOCs with the Olympic Council of Malaysia represented by its Secretary General Dato Mohamad Nazifuddin and Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi ( as a SEAGF Honorary Member)

“ We discussed the proposed amendment to the SEAGF Charter and Rules as well as the proposed sports for the 31st SEA Games.,” said Dato Nazif .

“ The host country, Vietnam provided a detailed briefing with regards to the 36 sports that they are proposing for the Games.

“ In addition they presented the venues and also stated that some venues could well be outside Hanoi, but with a distance of next exceeding 150km from Hanoi.”

Dato Nazifuddin added that Vietnam made it clear that there would not be a games village but instead the various contingents will be housed in hotels.

“ With regards to the sports to be contested, there were several appeals from countries for additional sports, “ clarified Dato Nazif.

“ There were several requests from all the countries and amongst the sports that have been proposed for consideration are Indoor hockey, Netball , Cricket, Skateboard, Sailing, Sampo, Tenpin Bowling , Rugby, Squash, Lawn Bowls and ESports”

It must be noted that the prerogative on the number of sports to be contested lies with the host country. In 2015 in Singapore , a total of 34 sports with 402 gold medals on offer, while at the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur it was 38 sports with 404 gold medals. And in Manila it 56 sports with 530 gold medals on offer.

Dato Nazif was optimistic that Indoor Hockey and Netball would get the nod given all round support from most member nations.
