AHF releases 2021 calendar, key decisions need to reviewed domestically

The Men’s Junior Asia Cup will be held from July 1 to 11 with the venue remaining the same, Dhaka Bangladesh.

This was endorsed by the Asian Hockey Federation Executive Board that met online yesterday .

This means that coach Wallace Tan can utilise the eight players that were deemed ineligible by some quarters after March.

The Junior Asia Cup was deemed as a jinxed tournament after being postponed twice – the first in June this year and January next year.

The Men’s and Winners Asia Cup has been now rescheduled to a window between November 2021 to January 2020 serving a blow to any plans of staring early the 2022 MHL.

The year starts in March with Dhaka hosting the Asian Champions Trophy from 11 to 18 March.

The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy is now from March 31 to April 7 in Donghae Korea.

This is followed by the Women’s Junior Asia Cup Kakamigaraha Japan from April 11 to 18 April.

This creates a massive problem for the national body who opted to merge most juniors into the senior squad Abd with back to back tourneys it could be a case of suicide.

And action on field moves to indoor next with the Asian Indoor and Martial and games in Bangkok from May 21 to 30 with the Asia Cup Indoor following right after in Bangkok p well.

The Azlan Shah Cup is listed from June 18 to June 27.

And tentatively proposed is the Women’s AHF Cup from 18 to 29 August in Uzbekistan while Oman will play host the the Men’s AHF Cup from 24 August to 4 September.

The 10 edition of the Sultan Johor Cup is slated from September 4 to September 12.

Also tentatively listen in the Men’s and Women’s Junior World Cups in November and December.

And with the release of these dates, the national body’s competition committee should start reviewing the calendar released prematurely , better will await the examination dates fir the school children before jumping the gun.
