KL coaches quit team

KL Hockey Association preparations for the 2018 Tun Razak Cup are in a turmoil.

Barely a week before the oldest national hockey competition gets underway, both the coaches, former internationals – S. Sivabalan and Raymond Tio have pulled out from taking charge of the team.

This came about when two officials of the city body intervened in the final selection of the squad.

It was learnt that 19 players were initially named on Tuesday night , upon completion of training, subject to one player getting a release from NS.

While the player and the coaches were attempting to sort out the release, the said player was informed that he was dropped from the final squad.

This incensed the coach who decided to throw in the towel and his assistant followed suit.

The displeasure stems from the fact that the coaches were denied the final say in the selection of the team and the decision made was not in accordance with what was mutually discussed the night before.

Efforts to contact the Chairperson of the KLHA Selection Committee K. Maheswari were futile.

Sivabalan declined to comment, only confirming that he was no longer coaching the city side.

It was further learnt that another set of former internationals, K. Gobinathan and Saiful Azli Abdul Rahman have now taken charge of the city squad.’

The Razak Cup commences on October 26 at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil.
