Mixed fortunes for Matador in Perth

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Matador Hockey Club in the second day of the FHE Cup in Perth.

The privately funded development club won their first match against Western Australia Penguins but succumbed to a 0-2 defeat at the hands of fellow Malaysian team, Bukit Jalil Sports School.

The win by BJSS allowed them to overtake Matador to second spot, both teams on nine points from four matches.

Matador’s fate will effectively be decided in their last preliminary match against Japan who top Pool B with 12 points, thanks to a run of winning four matches.

In the match against WA Penguins, goals by Nazrim Muslim in the 13th minute, Khairul Norizam in the 27th minute, Haiqal Haziq in the 29th minute and Ronny Richard in

31st minute.

And in the match they lost to BJSS, the damage was inflicted by goals from Zulhanif Shahran ( 29th minute) and Danish Aman ( 35th minute).

Meanwhile in the girls under 16, Mutiara Penang moved to second spot in the standings after recording wins over Southern River Barbarians ( 2-1) and Bobby’s Coaching Australia ( 3-1).

The other team, KL Sports School drew with Western Australia Dolphins (0-0) but went down 0-2 to Japan.
