Pakistan can still make Olympic Play Off but need to face disciplinary commission first.

The door is still open for Pakistan to make it to the play offs for a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

However it will all depend on Pakistan presenting a proper defence for their withdrawal from the Pro League to the FIH Disciplinary Commission in June.

Pakistan have sought a personal hearing on charges of withdrawing from the 2019 Pro League and a decision is expected after the scheduled hearing.

In revealing this, FIH Chief Executive Officer Thierry Weil, said that the participation of Pakistan is largely dependent on several factors.

“ Firstly they need to complete the disciplinary process and see what is the outcome,” explained Thierry during his one day visit to Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

“ Should there be a suspension enforced, then they will miss our subject to a decision to be made if they decide to appeal.

“ However if they are fined, then they will need to iron out the payment details before being eligible.”

He explained that all matters pertaining to Pakistan’s eligibility needs to be sorted out before September 20 when the draw will be conducted for the play offs scheduled for October and November.

“ In order to be eligible, not withstanding the disciplinary issue, Pakistan needs to be amongst the 14 teams that will be in the draw,” clarifies Thierry.

“ We have six teams qualifying from the World Series Final and four more from the Pro League.

“ So in reality they need to be within the four teams that will be included based on rankings after taking out the five continental champions.

“ They are not included in the World Series as their pathway was the Pro League.”

With teams set to collect ranking points from their participation in the Pro League and World Series, Pakistan who are currently sitting in the 12th position in world rankings could well miss out on a place in the play offs.

They have however yet to be added the points gained from the Jakarta Asian Games where they finished fourth and could well sneak into the cut off.

However a lower ranking means a tougher road in the play offs as they will most likely be pitted against the too three ranked 14 teams in a random draw.

Still there are doubts as to their disciplinary case and its subsequent decision,

Any appeal against the decision of the Disciplinary Commission can only be made to the FIH Executive Board.
