Petanque – Invited but turned away by OCM Selection Committee

They were invited for s Meeting for the OCM Selection Committee.

But after turning up on the scheduled time, the officials from the Malaysian Pétanque Federation were told that they were not allowed in to present their views or recommendations to the five man panel.

This was as a result of the exposure by this website on the suspension of the PFM by the international federation , Federation International Pétanque ( FIPJP ) and Confederation Mondiale Sport Boules ( CMSB).

With the details of the suspension being made public, and also the fact that OCM as well as NSC were officially notified of this issue formally, it was a wonder as to why the national body was invited to the meeting,

There is another registered body with the international federation – the Malaysian Boules Sports Federation , who however were denied registration by the Sports Commissioner and instead ended up with the Registrar of Societies.

On question of participation of the Malaysian Athletes to the Manila SEA Games, OCM Secretary Dato Nazifuddin Najib has this to say:

“ We hope to find a solution failing which the Athletes can participate under the OCM banner,” said Nazif when explaining why the PFM were turned away,

There are two options open to OCM with regards to the inclusion of Pétanque athletes for the Manila SEA Games.

One is to get the Malaysian Boules Sports Federation to endorse the list of athletes and there is no way the Athletes can be denied.

Otherwise the could opt to still send them to participate as independent athletes, using the 2017 case of the Myanmar Bowling Team as a precedent.

The athletes are registered by OCM as NOC – OCM but should not take any NF officials.

This was the case for Taekwondo for 2005 SEAG.

For 2017 SEAG, Myanmar Bowling was not member of IF – World Bowling & IF wrote to MASOC & SEAGF to try to disqualify Myanmar bowlers. But Malaysia allowed Myanmar bowlers to participate when Myanmar NOC registered them.

So which option will OCM adopt? Let’s wait and see.
