The King of Sports

Sports remains deeply embedded in the heart of newly proclaimed Yang Di Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

And that was evident as to bear witness to this historic ceremony this morning at Istana Negara were a host of sports personalities, both local as well as abroad.

Present at the swearing in ceremony were firmer FIH President Leandro Negre, Asian Hockey Federation Chief Executive Officer Dato Tayab Ikram, Asian Hockey Federation Hon. Treasurer Dato Fumio Ogura. Asian Hockey Federation Advisors, Dato Manjit Majid Abdullah ( who is also Vice President of MHC) and Yokoyama Hide from Japan.

Also in attendance was President of African Hockey Federation and FIH Board member Saif Ahmed  and South Korea’s Seung Jin Yoo.

Notable was the presence of OCM Secretary General Dato Nazifuddin as well as two former national captains.

At hand to witness the ceremony was former MHC Vice President Dato Ow Soon Kooi who was a dither National hockey captain.

And joining him was the man known as “ Towkay”, Dato Soh Chin Aun, the stalwart of Malaysian Football in the 70’s and 80’s.

Ironically both Soon Kooi and Chin Aun skippered their respective teams to qualify for the 1980 Moscow Olympics but Malaysia joined a USA led boycott of the Olympics.

From the sporting fraternity, we wish to congratulate HRH , the President of Asian Hockey Federation, former President of Football Association of Malaysia and Malaysian Hockey Confederation for his ascension to the throne.
